September is National Yoga Month and to celebrate the Blue Ewe Yoga Studio is offering two free yoga events the weekend of September 24thand 25th.
As part of the Global Mala Yoga for Peace project designed to unite the global yoga community, the studio will offer Poetry and Prayer for Peace, a yoga mala or moving mediation of 108 sun salutations—a flowing series of yoga poses designed to strengthen the body and make it more flexible. Beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the mala will be divided into four sessions led by Waters and two guest teachers: Melissa Feimster Lido and Whitney Brooks. Each segment will last approximately 30-40 minutes. Everyone is welcome to join in the mala regardless of whether she or he elects to participate in part or in full. Participants are encouraged to bring a poem or prayer to share or hold sacred to themselves during the mala.
On Sunday, September 25, Melissa Feimster Lido will offer a yin yoga workshop from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Yin Yoga focuses on deep stretching and holding the poses or asanas for long periods of time. Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular yang style of the sun salutations.
Although both events are free, participants are asked to make a donation to Food for Thought, the nonprofit organization that feeds hungry school children on weekends during the school year. Their mission is to improve the community by creating a coalition of organizations to feed food-insecure children in the Rowan-Salisbury School System.
